Integrates the activities of the Laboratory department with all other hospital departments in ensuring overall hospital efficiency and cost effectiveness.
Develops ongoing quantitative and qualitative operating analysis programs to establish and maintain the highest degree of cost effectiveness as well as quality assurance and risk management.
Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise employees in the Laboratory Department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Directly supervises non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Prepares and evaluates budgets (staffing, capital expenditures, supply and expense and all other costs) and works with administration to maintain current price/cost structure for test procedures pertaining to reimbursement systems.
Participates, provides constructive input and makes recommendations regarding new technology and assesses the need for replacement equipment with managerial support of cost, materials and capital considerations.
Evaluates on an ongoing basis laboratory practices to ensure compliance with all appropriate federal, state and other regulatory body guidelines that govern the laboratory and blood bank.
Oversees the Clinical Laboratory Federal Law Compliance Plan.
Maintains an active role in planning for growth and development of Laboratory programs.
Coordinates Laboratory purchasing with the Purchasing Department to evaluate cost and sources to maintain effective cost containment and inventory control.
Abides by the rules and regulations of Bayonne Medical Center as stated in the policies and procedures, complies with hospital mandatories as well as department requirements.
Performs other duties as assigned; willingness to adapt to changing department demands.
Responsible for daily monitoring, evaluating, and facilitating the revenue collection and clinical documentation process associated with revenue capture. This will include but not be limited to:
QUALIFICATIONS OF POSITION:
Bachelor’s Degree in Laboratory Science preferred. Minimum of 5 or more years related laboratory management experience. Extensive experience in a clinical laboratory. Master's degree in laboratory science or Business Administration preferred.
LICENSE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
Medical Technologist (ASCP) or equivalent or eligible
ADDITIONAL SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. Experience with Laboratory Information Systems required. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of data in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
