The Polysomnographic Technologist is involved in the treatment, management, diagnostic testing, research, control, education and care of patients with sleep and wake disorders under a qualified medical director. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, the process of analysis, monitoring and recording of physiologic data during sleep and wakefulness to assess, diagnose, and assist in the treatment and research of disorders, syndromes and dysfunctions that are either sleep related, manifest during sleep or disrupt normal sleep and wake cycles and activities. The Polysomnographic Technologist shall also provide the therapeutic and diagnostic use oxygen, [non-invasive ventilatory assistance of spontaneously breathing patients] the use of positive airway pressure including CPAP and bi-level modalities, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, maintenance of nasal and oral airways that do not extend in the trachea, transcription and implementation of the written or verbal orders of a physician pertaining to the practice of polysomnography.

Education: Associate’s Degree (includes RN diploma) (required); Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
Work Experience: 0 - 1 (required); 2 - 4 (preferred)
Licensure/Certifications: (required) N.J. Polysomnographic License (pending); Certificate of Completion – Polysomnography; Basic Life Support certification (CPR); (preferred) RPSGT credential through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists; Membership in the American Association of Sleep Technologists and/or the American Academy of Sleep Medicine; CRT/RRT credential through the National Board of Respiratory Care; Advanced Cardiac Life Support/Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
