What You'll Be Doing

The Director for the Risk Management is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the department. This includes the coordination and investigation, including potentially reportable incidents to the State Department of Health and providing documentation of all related data and facilitates resolution of reported incidents. 

 

Oversight includes proactive and reactive patient safety initiatives; Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode Effect Analysis, interfacing with defense and in-house counsel, collecting, managing, and analyzing risk management data, conducting risk management and regulatory educational programs, and compliance with risk management-related standards of regulatory agencies. Formulation, review, and implementation of policies and procedures geared toward risk identification, assessment, reduction, and remediation.

 

 

The successful candidate will be able to:

 

  • Establish methods to identify and mitigate risk; including, leading the planning and implementation of proactive risk assessments and process evaluation; Promote a Culture of Safety
  • Work with the other HRH Hospital Directors of Risk Management to create an integrated, system-wide Risk Management and Patient Safety Program
  • Develop and coordinate all education and training related to Risk Management, Loss Prevention and Service Excellence for physicians, residents, and staff, including educate and assist hospital management in assessing their areas of responsibility for potential loss exposure
  • Manage the safety event reporting and response process, including oversee the safety event reporting database, review safety event reports, investigate all potential serious safety events/serious preventable adverse events and potentially compensable events, and assist with the communication and documentation of errors or serious safety events in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and/or Joint Commission standards
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and ensure timely reporting in compliance with the NJ Patient Safety Act; assist with development and implementation of corrective action plans and monitor progress
  • Assist with the liability insurance program, including assist with broker and carrier submissions; and track potential/actual claims and provide timely notification to insurance carrier(s)
  • Manage claims in collaboration with legal counsel and insurance carrier, including coordinate the release of information in response to subpoenas, court orders and attorney requests
  • Serve as resource and contact for the NJ Department of Health and OSHA
  • Lead Patient Safety Committee and participate in various other hospital committees as assigned
  • Prepare and deliver reports to senior leadership and Hospital Board
  • Perform any and all duties as assigned

 

What We're Looking For

Full Time * Day Shift

 

  • Bachelor’s in Nursing or Bachelor’s Degree in related field required, Master’s Degree preferred
  • Current New Jersey Registered Nurse license preferred. 
  • Minimum 5 years’ of clinical healthcare experience required, preferably in acute care
  • Prior Risk Management experience preferred
  • Experience with safety event/incident tracking systems a plus!
  • Strong business acumen and leadership skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to interact with all levels of management and staff as well as external agencies
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Working knowledge of various computer software applications
