What You'll Be Doing

The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for the supervision, direction and coordination of pharmacy services. Plans, organizes and implements medication distribution functions, clinical services and performance improvement programs consistent with quality care. Is responsible for managing the financial operations of the department, developing associates and creating a healthy practice environment that fosters innovations and the organizational vision. Provides pharmacy services appropriate to the age for the patient served, i.e., neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric, ensuring that the pharmaceutical care provided meets the uniqueness of the patient with regard to the age and development. Enforces adherence to Federal and State regulations. Works collaboratively with other departments and disciplines in optimizing drug utilization and distribution throughout the organization. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

The successful candidate will be able to:

 

  • Develops and implements pharmacy strategic initiatives and operating plans, which focus on optimized patient care and safety, and enhance cost effectiveness. Partners with senior leadership in strategic and departmental planning. Works collaboratively with pharmacy leadership team to ensure strategic and operational planning alignment, resource alignment and measurement and achievement of goals
  • Translates organization’s vision and strategies to department level, mobilizes allocated resources to achieve outcomes and growth
  • Establishes systems and processes that drive accountability for customer care, financial and/or operational outcomes. Develops systems to identify and measure key patient care, operational, employee and financial outcomes
  • Works with pharmacy leadership team to develop and execute monitoring metrics for pharmacy and medication use and compliance, including the categories quality and safety, care delivery effectiveness (operational and clinical efficiencies), employee experience and financial vitality
  • Responsible for pharmacy budget planning and processes; monitors for performance and variances to meet or exceed approved budget
  • Provides leadership and direction to pharmacy team leadership and team members
  • Oversees implementation of drug use initiatives and pharmacy care management initiatives across the pharmacy enterprise
  • Responsible for acquisition and purchasing of quality drugs for Pharmacy usage
  • Assures medication storage, access and distribution meets patient care and regulatory requirements. Works with others in identifying and prioritizing informatics and automation initiatives
  • Ensures implementation of and compliance with organizational and departmental policies and procedures
  • Ensures compliance with standards and requirements of all accrediting, licensing, and governmental agencies pertaining to pharmacy services, including Minnesota Board of Pharmacy statues and regulations
  • Develops and maintains appropriate reports pharmacy records, reports, and patient information and profiles, as required by standards and policies
  • Develops collaborative interdepartmental and interdisciplinary relationships, to assure partnerships and support effective, efficient, and safe operations and clinical processes
  • Engages in regular communication with leadership across the system about the medication management system performance needs. Leads efforts to drive evidence-based, cost effective, medication use initiatives across the continuum of care
  • Facilitates and ensures compliance with human resources processes and programs. Develops talent within the team, including acquiring, engaging, and retaining team members
  • Serves as the Leadership residency program
  • Builds relationships within pharmacy leaders within the local, state, and national health care community, to partner on improvements within medication management
  • Perform any and all duties as assigned

 

What We're Looking For

Full Time * Day Shift

 

  • Bachelor’s in Nursing or Bachelor’s Degree in related field required, Master’s Degree preferred
  • Current New Jersey Registered Nurse license required.
  • 5+ years of Performance Improvement experience in an acute care/hospital setting with demonstrated ability to direct and implement major processes in PI.
  • Demonstrated analytical and financial skills to measure current processes and outcomes of quality improvement process.
  • Knowledge of Core Indicator’s along with Joint Commission and DOH regulations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of patient care and hospital systems.
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) credential preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to orally relate complex information in a reliable fashion to both leadership and governance as well as general staff members and the medical staff.
  • Must demonstrate a strong orientation to customer satisfaction, effective teamwork, problem solving and utilize small group dynamics in conflict management.
  • Strong background in statistical process control and/or other quality improvement and measurement techniques necessary. Computer literacy required.
