What You'll Be Doing

The Director is responsible for the daily management and strategic oversight of all laboratory functions at Hoboken and Heights, including inpatient, outpatient, and point of care testing. The role ensures accurate, timely, and cost-effective laboratory services that support exceptional patient care and align with the System’s goals for standardization, quality, and efficiency. This position reports directly to the System Chief Operating Officer.

 

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • Direct, coordinate, and evaluate all laboratory operations across Hoboken and Heights campuses.
  • Ensure full compliance with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, OSHA, FDA, and state regulatory standards.
  • Lead and mentor laboratory supervisors, and technical staff to foster high performance and accountability.
  • Maintain optimal staffing and productivity models to meet service and financial targets.
  • Collaborate closely with hospital leadership, medical directors, and pathologists to maintain high testing standards and enhance the test menu.
  • Oversee equipment acquisition, vendor management, supply chain processes, and reagent inventory.
  • Partner with IT and clinical teams to ensure seamless integration of laboratory information systems and workflows.
  • Monitor and report laboratory Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), turnaround times, and quality measures.
  • Drive process improvement, standardization, and cost optimization initiatives in alignment with HRHS system goals.
  • Represent laboratory services in hospital and system-level operational and quality meetings

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary laboratory administrative leader for Hoboken and Heights campuses.
  • Collaborate with the System executives and other hospital executives to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Participate in system-wide laboratory initiatives and cross-campus collaboration projects.
  • Promote a culture of transparency, accountability, service excellence, and innovation.

 

What We're Looking For

Full Time * Day Shift

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Current Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist licensure and national certification (ASCP, NCA, or AMT) required.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive laboratory management experience, including multi-department or multi-campus oversight.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory regulations, quality management, and fiscal operations.
  • Proven leadership, communication, and analytical skills with the ability to motivate diverse teams.
  • Must demonstrate a strong orientation to customer satisfaction, effective teamwork, problem solving and utilize small group dynamics in conflict management.
